About Hambly Lavender Farm

Rooted in family, shaped by the land, and guided by a belief that what goes on your body and into your home should be thoughtfully made.

Hambly Lavender Farm is run by Gina and Milton Hambly. Our family has deep roots in the Paso Robles area, with our children representing the sixth generation raised in this community.

Like many families, we felt called to slow down and get back to the kind of work our grandparents knew — honest, physical work tied to the land. Farming has always been part of our family story, and we wanted our kids to grow up with that same connection. It’s humbling work. We learn every day, work hard, and do our best to honor the traditions that came before us.

How It Started — and Why Lavender

Hambly family on the farm.

Our farm story really began when our kids were young and involved in 4-H and FFA. What started with animals and small projects grew into something much bigger. Somewhere along the way — several years and many farm animals later — we were all hooked on this agricultural lifestyle.

In 2017, we purchased 26 acres in San Miguel with plans to plant orchards and raise animals. After evaluating our soil, climate, and ongoing drought conditions, we realized we needed a crop that truly respected the land and the water we depend on. Lavender — resilient, water-wise, and well suited to this climate — turned out to be the right fit.

We planted our first lavender in 2019. Today, our rolling hills are home to over 4,500 plants across eight varieties, covering nearly three football fields. Our very first bloom arrived in early 2020 — just as the world was entering the uncertainty of COVID-19. In a season filled with anxiety and unknowns, we found ourselves doing what farmers do: tending the plants in front of us and creating something useful for the moment we were all living through.

We began crafting our first lavender products with a simple goal — to help people create small pockets of calm in a world that felt anything but calm.

“We wanted to create small pockets of calm in a world that felt anything but calm.”

From the Field to the Bottle

Our lavender is hand-weeded, hand-harvested, and distilled on site using traditional methods. It takes nearly one-third of a pound of lavender to produce a single 5 ml bottle of pure essential oil — which means what you’re using is concentrated, pure, and true to the plant.

In 2025, Milton — our head distiller — earned a Gold Medal at the International Lavender Oil & Culinary Competition for our Dutch Mill Lavender Essential Oil. It was our first time entering a competition and a meaningful moment for our family. We chose this variety because it has consistently been a farm favorite with visitors each season.

Products Made to Solve Everyday Problems

Estate-grown, small-batch lavender products made to be used — every day.

We started making lavender products because people were asking for them — and because many were looking for simple, natural alternatives to products filled with synthetic fragrance and unnecessary ingredients.

Our approach is straightforward: if it goes on your body or into your home, it should be thoughtfully made, genuinely useful, and free of harsh chemicals and fragrances.

Our most-loved products include essential oils, calming oil rollers, linen and room mists, hydrosols, soaps, salves, lip balms, and curated gift sets — all crafted with estate-grown lavender and minimal ingredients. Whenever possible, we source from nearby farms and producers we know and trust.

A Place to Slow Down

We invite visitors to experience the farm firsthand through seasonal U-Pick experiences, guided visits, workshops, and picnics among the lavender fields. With our background in education, we designed these experiences to help people understand how lavender is grown, harvested, and crafted — while also giving them space to relax and reconnect.

Our hope is that when you arrive, you feel your shoulders drop.
